‘Nah’ to Syonan Gallery (re-)naming?

I have had many conflicting thoughts and emotions about the naming and the re-naming of the Old Ford Factory Museum exhibition, as a history buff, a cultural studies major, as well as a descendant of resistance fighters and victims of the Sook Ching Massacre — and the ‘goddaughter’ of a Japanese couple who were born after the War.

And to be honest, I am still processing it.

I’m hoping the NHB lecture that I’m attending later today on the invasion and occupation of Singapore through WW2 Japanese propaganda will help me put things into perspective and sort through my feelings…
